ICAO and other regulators require all aviation organisations to implement an SMS.

A Safety Management System is required to manage risk and keep aircraft operations safe. In order to manage such a program an organisation is obliged to develop the necessary knowledge and skills among its key personnel. This particular training provides essential knowledge and develops the required skills and competencies of all attending trainings. A course which is directed to safety and quality professionals, line managers and the personnel who would work in the implementation and operation of the SMS. The course has been designed to meet the requirements of customized Training Need Analysis (TNA) on the specific learning area.

Instructors

Vangelis Demosthenous

Holds an MSc in Human Factors & Safety Management. He is the Managing Director of Kratis Training and Consulting Ltd. Prior to establishing Kratis he had worked for 18 years as a supervisor and a licensed aircraft engineer for Cyprus Airways. He is passionate with safety and human factors. He has been to over 35 countries around the world to deliver training and other services. His clients include organisations such as Rolls-Royce, Gulfstream Aerospace, Emirates Cathay Pacific etc. He is a member of the EASA Human Factors Collaborative, Advisory Group. He has worked in the development of the current EASA human factors and SMS requirements. He has for many years been active in Aircraft Engineers International.

Vassos Lappa

Vassos works as a trainer and consultant for Kratis Training and Consulting and as an Associate Examiner for the Human Recourse Authority of Cyprus (HRDA), assessing trainers and training organisations. He has an academic background in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma), a Master’s Degree in Continuous and Adult Education, an MBA and currently studying for a Masters in HR & Organisational Bahaviour. He has a 25 year experience in aviation as Cabin Crew and a Trainer and almost 2 years’ experience as a Careers Officer for Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM). Vassos has also been an Associate Trainer to CIIM’s Executive Education and an Associate Trainer to Crew Academy. He is a certified HF and Crew Resource Management Trainer and has worked a lot on developing and delivering training courses on Aviation Safety, CRM, Human Factors, Train the Trainer, Leadership, Teamwork, Communication, Change Management, Ethics and other related topics.

Solonas Demosthenous

Solonas has a background in Organisational and Work Psychology (BSc, MSc) and he currently works as a trainer and consultant for Kratis Training and Consulting. Also, works as a Teaching visitor for Trinity College in Dublin and other academic institutions. Previously he worked as a researcher for the Aerospace Psychology Research Group of the Trinity College and he also practices psychotherapy on a part time basis. He is a certified HRDA and Human Factors Trainer and he worked a lot on developing and delivering training courses on Aviation Safety, Human Factors, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership, Teamwork and other related topics. Finally, Solonas provided coaching on the subject of Emotional Intelligence and leadership, to professionals with a variety of cultural, organizational and industrial background. He is a member of British Psychological Society and Cyprus Psychology Association.
